VR Pro's fall running series arrives with two festive faves

It’s finally happening. Runners across the country are breathing a collective sigh of joy and relief at the return to in-person racing.

Following the successful First Race Back, VR Pro, the team behind one of Ontario’s most popular races the Chilly Half Marathon, will be hosting two fall series events with festive themes and loads of fun for Ontario runners.

What’s better than a return to in-person racing with a festive event that begins at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club? Two for the same price! The VR Pro events team is stirring up the fall season with two amazing in-person events, offered them up for one reduced price.

The events are classics: VR Pro’s Frightening 5K and Terrifying 10K is set for Oct. 16, followed by the holly jolly Jingle Bells 5K and 10K on Nov. 28.

Of course, the races are available as individual events as well.

Each event begins with a catered breakfast at the yacht club followed by an out-and-back racecourse. According to VR Pro, there will be prizes for costumes as well.

“The races start at the yacht club and head towards Bayfront Park,” says VR Pro’s Jessica Brake. “The 5K turn around is at Bayfront and the 10K turn around is at the bridge.”

The route follows a scenic waterfront trail that winds its way along the bay and back to the yacht club.

Each participant will receive a goodie bag and a beautiful and festive medal. For the Halloween event, the medal opens up and says “happy Halloween” through a voice box. This, in addition to a hot breakfast.

VR Pro has Food For Life as its charitable partner for the event.

“We have partnered with Food For Life as our official charity partner for the event and we will be collecting monetary and fresh food donations throughout the series,” Brake says. “Food For Life is a local charity that rescues good fresh food and redistributes it to those who need them.”

VR Pro is asking that all race kits be picked up before race day, as part of the event health and safety protocols.

Those that can pick up kits on Oct. 9 could win free butter tarts if they are amongst the first 80 to show up at Burlington’s Holy Cross Church.

As always, the VR Pro team continues to work towards fostering a sense of community. The team’s Facebook group for runners has provided an opportunity to connect with each, share accomplishments and challenges. Make sure you check it out right here and take part by posting your walks, runs and Halloween running costume ideas!
